About

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jonathan Kopeliovich is a journalist and documentary filmmaker in the Digital Media and Design program at the University of Connecticut. After his dad showed him Jim Carrey comedies, Jonathan was hooked on filmmaking and finding ways to tell stories to entertain others. A stint of acting and film community college classes during high school combined with the diverse LA art community confirmed this excitement.
After he came to UConn, he was hooked by the student radio. He pursued a variety of stories on topics like addiction, neurodiversity in engineering, and COVID-19 testing. Jonathan loves to toy with the idea of music-based editing and chaos in his films. He also continues to push himself when it comes to experimenting with different mediums; as a result, he helped produce films at the university television station and wrote for the Daily Campus.
On his way through the degree, Jonathan has made documentaries about the Armenian Genocide, Jonathan the Husky, created narrative films about climate change and mental health, and pursued environmental journalism. He has worked for the Department of Engineering as a writer, interned at NBC as a news correspondent, and went down to Falmouth for a summer to practice science communication at the Woodwell Climate Research Center. Currently he works as the Training Director at WHUS Radio.
